Maps and Stats:
I had a Conference to attend in Monterey, and as is the norm, I looked for a peak to do on the way down to best take advantage of my travel. I used Lists of John to find Mummy Mountain, a minor peak near Coyote Lake east of Morgan Hill. I arrived fairly late, having first driven into the park but turned around when signs warned that the park closed at sunset. I wasn't sure I could make it out by then, so I backtracked to a small TH outside of the fee area. The hike itself is very simple, following a well defined path at first, before I followed several minor use trails heading up the towards the peak. It wasn't much effort to make the journey to the top, covered in rocks and trees. No register to be found. There were some nice views towards Morgan Hill, and plenty of deer were seen throughout the trip. I took a slightly different descent route, following the main trail back down. In total it was about 3 miles / 500 feet of gain, with the journey taking 1 hour to complete. This is a nice area, and there is another listed peak several miles further down the ridge from Mummy Mountain that I will have to come back for some other day.
